Closet Too Small - Here's What To Do

We’d all like to have large, luxurious walk-in closets. But, unfortunately, not everyone has the benefit of that much closet space. If you’re one of the “unlucky” ones, don’t panic. Instead, just follow a few tips for making the most of the space you do have.

DON’T BE A CLOTHES HOARDER

This tip might sound simple, but honestly, if you’re having trouble storing your clothes, it’s probably a sign that you have too many. Make it your mission to go through your closet once or twice a year and throw out anything that doesn’t fit, has gone out of style, or that just plain doesn’t “spark joy” for you anymore. You’ll be surprised at how much you can get rid of and at how much space you can free up in the process.

OPEN UP SOME FLOOR SPACE

Guess what? It’s not just those hanging racks that offer storage space in your closet. The floor of your closet can also be a great spot for storing extra items, like things you won’t need until next season or those shoes you only pull out on special occasions. A good tip is to store all of your low-hanging items at one end of the closet. That way, you’ll have a whole section of easily-accessible floor space under your higher-hanging items.

DIVIDE YOUR TOP SHELF

Just as the space at the bottom of your closet can be useful, so can that top shelf. Get even more use out of it and get more organized by using shelf dividers. That way, you can easily group items, find things more easily, and feel like you’ve got not just more space but more manageable space as well.

If these tips don’t work for you, then you may need a complete closet overhaul or maybe even a new closet altogether. Whatever the case may be, if nothing seems to be working, then it’s probably time to call in a professional closet organizer. And, lucky for you, there are some truly great ones in the Akron, Ohio area!
