Tips For A Great Garage

If you’re like most people, then the family garage probably functions as a great big closet, a place where you can store all the items you don’t have room for inside your home.

And, while there’s nothing wrong with that, no one wants a cluttered garage. You and your family deserve a functional, safe, organized garage, and thankfully, that’s easier to achieve than you might imagine.

ADD IN A LITTLE “FREE” SPACE

First things first, don’t fill every square inch of your garage with boxes or piles of stuff. That looks super untidy, and it keeps you from enjoying having a garage in the first place. Instead, decide as a family what you would like to use your garage for. Do you want a fun play area for the kids for when it’s rainy outside? Or, maybe one of the adults would like to store some exercise equipment or an arts and crafts or tool area.

Whatever the case may be, do try to allot some of your garage space to a “fun” or “free” space for you and your family. It’ll encourage you to keep clutter at bay and will enable you to actually get some real enjoyment out of your garage.

HANG LARGE OBJECTS

Most garages will have at least a few larger items stored inside, such as bicycles. For items like these, try to keep them up and off the garage floor. You can do this by adding in hooks or, if an item is too heavy, racks or shelves. This will not only make your garage look neater, but it will also enable you to get more use out of your floor space.

STAY ORGANIZED

The absolute worst thing you can do when it comes to storing items in your garage is to just place random boxes of stuff anywhere they’ll fit. Have a clear system in place for which items go where, aiming to place more commonly-used items in the most accessible places. Also, when possible, separate items into categories, like gardening gear or holiday decorations, for easier storage and use.

If all of this makes you feel a bit overwhelmed or if your garage is too big of a mess for you to tackle, don’t worry! You can always hire help. Most professional closet organizers in the Akron, Ohio area are more than happy to help you with your garage too.
